species richness and endemism terrestrial vertebrates and vascular plants. This rich biological heritage is a source of national pride and forms the foundation for sustainable development.<br\/><br\/>\n\nWith approximately 18 million hectares of forest, Malaysia hosts 70% of the known species of the world. Furthermore, a staggering 90% of the nation&#8217;s water supply originates from rivers flowing through these vital forest ecosystems.<br\/><br\/>\n\nMalaysia&#8217;s forest also serve as crucial nature-based solutions to environmental challenges, supporting national goals such as maintaining at least 50% of the country&#8217;s forest and tree cover, reducing carbon intensity by 45% by 2030 and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.<br\/><br\/>\n\nThousands of species of flora and fauna, across diverse ecosystems &#8211; from lowland forests and mangroves to mountain ranges and coral reefs &#8211; call Malaysia home. Its marine protected areas span hundreds of thousands of hectares across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, comprising coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forests.<br\/><br\/>\n\nThe global conservation landscape is facing unprecedented challenges with biodiversity loss accelerating at an alarming rate. Malaysia is not exempt from these pressures and continues to face its own complex environmental concerns. In response, the country maintains a strong commitment to addressing conservation and sustainability issues through various national and international efforts. As a reflection of its ecological significance at the global level, Malaysia is home to three (3) biosphere reserves recognised under UNESCO&#8217;s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Tasik Chini Biosphere Reserve (designated in 2009)<\/li>\n \t<li>Crocker Range Biosphere Reserve (designated in 2014)<\/li>\n \t<li>Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (designated in 2021)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThese designations demonstrate Malaysia&#8217;s ongoing efforts to harmonise biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and community participation.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-845c2cb e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"845c2cb\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b374781 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b374781\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(\u4e2d\u6587)<br\/><br\/>\n\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u662f\u4e16\u754c17\u4e2a\u8d85\u7ea7\u751f\u7269\u591a\u6837\u6027\u56fd\u5bb6\u4e4b\u4e00\uff0c\u5176\u9646\u751f\u810a\u690e\u52a8\u7269\u548c\u7ef4\u7ba1\u690d\u7269\u7269\u79cd\u4e30\u5bcc\uff0c\u7279\u6709\u6027\u9ad8\u3002\u8fd9\u4efd\u4e30\u539a\u7684\u751f\u7269\u9057\u4ea7\u4e0d\u4ec5\u662f\u56fd\u5bb6\u7684\u9a84\u50b2\uff0c\u4e5f\u4e3a\u53ef\u6301\u7eed\u53d1\u5c55\u5960\u5b9a\u4e86\u57fa\u77f3\u3002<br\/><br\/>\n\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u62e5\u6709\u7ea61800\u4e07\u516c\u9877\u7684\u68ee\u6797\uff0c\u662f\u5168\u740370%\u5df2\u77e5\u7269\u79cd\u7684\u5bb6\u56ed\u3002\u6b64\u5916\uff0c\u5168\u56fd\u9ad8\u8fbe90%\u7684\u6c34\u4f9b\uff0c\u7686\u6e90\u81ea\u4e8e\u6d41\u7ecf\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5173\u952e\u68ee\u6797\u751f\u6001\u7cfb\u7edf\u7684\u6cb3\u6d41\u3002<br\/><br\/>\n\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u4ea6\u662f\u5e94\u5bf9\u73af\u5883\u6311\u6218\u7684\u5173\u952e\u201c\u57fa\u4e8e\u81ea\u7136\u7684\u89e3\u51b3\u65b9\u6848\u201d\uff0c\u52a9\u529b\u5b9e\u73b0\u591a\u9879\u56fd\u5bb6\u76ee\u6807\uff0c\u4f8b\u5982\u7ef4\u6301\u5168\u56fd\u81f3\u5c1150%\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u4e0e\u6797\u5730\u8986\u76d6\u7387\u3001\u52302030\u5e74\u5c06\u78b3\u6392\u653e\u5f3a\u5ea6\u964d\u4f4e45%\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u52302050\u5e74\u5b9e\u73b0\u6e29\u5ba4\u6c14\u4f53\u51c0\u96f6\u6392\u3002<br\/><br\/>\n\u6210\u5343\u4e0a\u4e07\u79cd\u52a8\u690d\u7269\u4ee5\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u4e3a\u5bb6\u56ed\uff0c\u5e7f\u6cdb\u6816\u606f\u4e8e\u5176\u591a\u6837\u5316\u7684\u751f\u6001\u7cfb\u7edf\u4e2d\uff0c\u6db5\u76d6\u4e86\u4ece\u4f4e\u5730\u68ee\u6797\u3001\u7ea2\u6811\u6797\u5230\u5c71\u8109\u4e0e\u73ca\u745a\u7901\u7684\u5e7f\u9614\u73af\u5883\u3002\u5176\u6d77\u6d0b\u4fdd\u62a4\u533a\u603b\u9762\u79ef\u8fbe\u6570\u5341\u4e07\u516c\u9877\uff0c\u904d\u5e03\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u534a\u5c9b\u3001\u6c99\u5df4\u4e0e\u7802\u62c9\u8d8a\uff0c\u8303\u56f4\u6db5\u76d6\u73ca\u745a\u7901\u3001\u6d77\u8349\u5e8a\u53ca\u7ea2\u6811\u6797\u3002<br\/><br\/>\n\u5168\u7403\u4fdd\u80b2\u683c\u5c40\u6b63\u9762\u4e34\u524d\u6240\u672a\u6709\u7684\u6311\u6218\uff0c\u751f\u7269\u591a\u6837\u6027\u6b63\u4ee5\u60ca\u4eba\u7684\u901f\u5ea6\u52a0\u901f\u6d41\u5931\u3002\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u540c\u6837\u65e0\u6cd5\u5e78\u514d\u4e8e\u8fd9\u4e9b\u538b\u529b\uff0c\u5e76\u6301\u7eed\u5e94\u5bf9\u7740\u81ea\u8eab\u590d\u6742\u7684\u73af\u5883\u95ee\u9898\u3002\u4e3a\u6b64\uff0c\u6211\u56fd\u575a\u5b9a\u5730\u81f4\u529b\u4e8e\u901a\u8fc7\u56fd\u5185\u5916\u7684\u591a\u65b9\u52aa\u529b\uff0c\u6765\u89e3\u51b3\u4fdd\u80b2\u53ca\u53ef\u6301\u7eed\u53d1\u5c55\u7b49\u8bfe\u9898\u3002\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u62e5\u6709\u4e09\u4e2a\u96b6\u5c5e\u4e8e\u8054\u5408\u56fd\u6559\u79d1\u6587\u7ec4\u7ec7\u201c\u4eba\u4e0e\u751f\u7269\u5708\u8ba1\u5212\u201d\u7684\u751f\u7269\u5708\u4fdd\u62a4\u533a\uff0c\u5f70\u663e\u5176\u5168\u7403\u6027\u7684\u751f\u6001\u5730\u4f4d:\n<ul>\n designated by UNESCO in 2009 as Malaysia\u2019s first UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) site. Spanning over 9,142.62 hectares, it comprises interconnected waterways, riparian zones, and lowland dipterocarp forests surrounding Peninsular Malaysia\u2019s second largest freshwater lake.<\/p><p>Nestled in the heart of Pahang, Tasik Chini is a chain of 12 interconnected waterbodies covering over 12,500 acres. A barrage on the Chini River maintains water levels year-round, supporting both wetland habitats and ecotourism. Local jakun communities believe the lake is home to Naga Sri Gumum, a mythical dragon often referred to as the \u201cLoch Ness of Malaysia\u201d.<\/p><p>The Biosphere Reserve is a biodiversity hotspot with over 785 plant species recorded, including vulnerable endemics like Hopea pubescens and Nephelium costatum. Wildlife thrives here: 14 amphibians, 39 reptiles, 184 birds, and 67 mammal species, including the Near Threatened Raffles Banded Langur (Presbytis femoralis). A new species of dragonfly, Chalybeothemis chini, was first discovered in this area.<\/p><p>The indigenous Jakun communities \u2014 particularly in Gumum, Tanjung Puput, Cendahan, and Melai \u2014 depend on the lake for water, food, and cultural identity. They actively participate in conservation and sustainable development initiatives, balancing tradition and modern livelihood while safeguarding the lake\u2019s ecological integrity.<\/p><p>\u73cd\u5c3c\u6e56\u751f\u7269\u5708\u4fdd\u62a4\u533a\u4e8e2009\u5e74\u83b7\u5f97\u8054\u5408\u56fd\u6559\u79d1\u6587\u7ec4\u7ec7\u6307\u5b9a\u4e3a\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u9996\u4e2a\u7684\u4eba\u4e0e\u751f\u7269\u5708\u8ba1\u5212\u4fdd\u62a4\u533a\u3002\u8be5\u4fdd\u62a4\u533a\u9762\u79ef\u8fbe 9,142.62 under UNESCO\u2019s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme on 15 September 2021, covers 12,481 hectares comprising 7,285 hectares of terrestrial ecosystems and 5,196 hectares of marine areas. It represents a distinctive landscape where natural and cultural heritage are conserved together in unison.<br\/><br\/>\n\nThe PHBR contains a unique mosaic of habitats, including primary lowland dipterocarp rainforest, hill dipterocarp forest with sub-montane elements, mangroves, sandy beaches, rocky shores, freshwater rivers, waterfalls, and artificial lakes at dams serving as major water catchment areas for the island. It also encompasses one (1) of only five (5) meromictic lakes in Asia.<br\/><br\/>\n\nThe reserve harbours thousands of plant species and a rich variety of animal life, including many that are endemic or listed as being of conservation concern on the IUCN Red List. It plays a vital role in safeguarding ecosystem services such as water regulation, hill slope stabilisation, and habitat connectivity that maintain biodiversity and benefit local communities.<br\/><br\/>\n\nThe PHBR also reflects centuries of cultural history and traditional knowledge embedded within the landscape. By integrating conservation, socio-economically sustainable activities, and education, the PHBR demonstrates the principles of a biosphere reserve, contributing to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves as a living example of nature and culture coexisting in
